Birthday Recollections Apr. 13th, 2008 @ 11:05 am
Thursday, I turned the ripe old age of 38.  Yay for me!

Joel and I celebrated by heading to Trader Vics in Emeryville.  I had nice memories of that place and wanted something Esquivellian and with a LARGE shared bowl of cocktail.  It met my desires 10 fold.

After that we headed to the Roda Theater for Carrie Fishers "Wishful Drinking".  Her show was awesome, even if you werent as familiar with the cast of Hollywood dears as others from that generation.  A million one-liners and quips.  She was glib and serious all at once.  My favorite line from the night..."resentment is when you drink the poison and expect the other person to hurt."  Shes lived more than 5 lives by my count.

bear_with_me and our friend Kirk would have enjoyed it tons.

Intermittent and Obscure Post #1 Mar. 2nd, 2008 @ 12:26 pm
Friday - Went over to the shitty and hit Erics for some Chinese food.  Yummy walnut prawns and sizzling rice soup.  Followed up with Semi-Pro at the San Francisco Centre (how chic of us).  I know theres alot of Will Farrel hating out there...but it was FUNNY!  Far better than the ice skating one, and yes we know hes a one trick pony, all of the humor is the same and quasi slap stick and cliche.  So's Big Mac and Cheerios, yet I dont here anyone complaining about them for their lack of inventiveness.  Im just sayin'.

Saturday - After reading Cliff post about J's Pots of Soul a few times, we gave it a try.  OMG.  Good.  Yummy.  Fast.  'Nuff said.  JG had a handbell CD release party (his group Velocity) that evening at a friends home in Glen Park.  Was fun.  Handbell people are nice, and fun to pick on (but who dont I love picking on).

Sunday - Back in Oaktown.  Trip to the Montclair farmers market found yumminess, but not alot of veggies or fruit.  I cant wait for spring!

C'est ca.

My alma mater is where the latest shootings have occured, at Northern Illinois Univ.  My hometown.

Its a bit on the sureal side to read stories about the hall where the shootings occured and know the door he probably walked through before he started shooting.

And to top it all off...the "Reverend" Fred Phelps strikes again.

God bless my alma mater tonight and those souls who are troubled.

Pushing Daisies Oct. 30th, 2007 @ 10:34 pm

This is BY FAR the most original and awesome piece of television in this style in ages.

Im about in love with its cleverness.   Its like a funnier and less droll Tennenbaums.

And I am in love with Kristin Chenowyth.

Cory and Joel - October 2007

Was an awesome time, but Im glad to be home.

» Stained Glass
The postings come rarely these days.

JG and I are in a stained glass making class over on 4th Street in Berkeley.  The Stained Glass Garden has a great shop and a nice little studio set up in back.  Its been nice to exercise an artistic muscle again after all these years of inactivity.  Its light exercise I should qualify...just cutting and fitting into some existing drawings, but the selection of the glass, the texture, color, etc. just make it that much more fun.

Ive chosen an "arts and crafts" style for my inaugral piece.  Lots of squares and rectangles, very much so in the Frank Lloyd Wright mode.

Ive always had an interest in stained glass and it as an artform.  My step-grandfather made pieces, I have one of his lamps in my apt.  Cherished.  Tonight I opened up a box he had given me like more than 10 years ago...all of his old tools and such.  Along with some (Im quite sure) vintage glass.  I cant wait to incorporate pieces of it into future works.

Anyways.  Joel is great.  Im good.  New job is good.  New apt is great.  Need more furniture.
» Commence Geekery
I dont post much these days.

New jobby job is going very well. Lots of challenges and opportunities.

My apt move went very well. TONS of additional space, and cupboard areas that are BARE!

Joel is wonderful, as always.

This Friday we are driving down to LA so that I may commence my sole source of geekery (besides my employment)...Drum Corps.

The Drum Corps International World Championships are being held at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Ive got tickets for Joel and his folks as well. I figure Ill give them their Christmas present early...ample material for Cory-bashing for years to come.

Since I was a kid, Ive followed the Phantom Regiment out of Rockford Illinois, which is a mere 45 miles from my hometown.  They have these amazing lush sounds that just scoop me in.

IM STOKED!
» Awwwwww Yeah.

I THRILLED someone took the time to post it.

"It says to cook and chill. And baby thats what I do every night...I cook, then I chill."
